King Tang, thanks for solving the riddle to the universal, nagging desire set deep inside all of us. Life would be just utterly rotten if we lived each day with that demanding and pesky crave for cold, sweet, comfort. How brilliant charging over 90 “Ice Men” to create the first frozen treat with fermented buffalo and goat milk mixed with rice.

Thanks to you we indulge in our gelato urges as we please, even while surfing the net on our IPad. Sweet, civilized life.

Coffee and gelato are perfect partners – both quintessential Italian pleasures. You may know that Ugo used to own a coffee plantation in Kenya so he knows coffee, gelato and Piedmont wines like no one else. (We’ll talk Italian wines soon.)

We bring the same obsessive attention and fine palate to our coffee as we do our gelato so before we formally introduced caffe, we cupped, sipped and discussed countless coffee beans to find the very best for sipping espresso, hanging out with friends and pairing with gelato. Espresso is a way of life in Italy, so we made sure our Paciugo Coffee was as authentic Italian, as our gelato.

As a former marketer at an esteemed coffee retailer who shall remain nameless, I will tell you that my true north coffee experience was with a Paciugo Latte. Ugo did it right. The sweetness, and depth of Paciugo Espresso takes a stand to steamed milk perfectly. The balance and depth of the espresso shot (or two or three) doesn’t over-power the milk with a sharp edge or bitterness. Instead, it is a sweet, hearty latte full of flavor. Just like Ugo.

Ah, freedom. No lunches to pack, no lost backpacks to retrieve, no race for the school bus. Just the happy chirping of liberated kids…and some long summer days. And did we say hot ones, too?

BE COOL, EAT FREE

Sounds like the perfect time for a trip to Paciugo Gelato & Caffe, where we’re celebrating summer and kids, which we think are a perfect combo. Every Tuesday in July and August, at participating stores, kids 12 and younger get a free Bambino Cup when a grown-up buys a gelato. The details: Kids Eat Free Tuesdays from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., July 5 through August 30. The limit is three Bambino Cups per one adult purchase, prego.
